    What is ADSL?

ADSL, or Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line technology is a means of transmitting digital information at high bandwidth down existing copper telephone cable. It is permanently 'switched on', unlike normal dialup access and is asymmetric in that it uses most of the available bandwidth downstream. The technology also supports analogue connection on the same line, which enables voice or fax calls to be made simultaneously.

This makes it ideal for Internet use. Extremely fast access without tying up your phone line. What's more, your phone line will work exactly as it did previously. You will be able to keep your existing phone number and continue to use Call waiting, Call return and Caller Display if you subscribe to these BT Select services.

Access to ADSL is available through a flat-rate subscription, meaning that you can be online for as long as you like without incurring extra phone charges. Your phone call charges are not included in this price and will be billed in the usual fashion.
    ADSL is...

...surfing as it should be - clicking on a link, and instead of having to make a cup of tea whilst the pictures painfully download, it's there immediately.

...downloading a large file click.. you've saved it to disk

...no more logging on to read your mail.. it's already there waiting for you

...10 - 40 times faster than the best current modems

    ....the future
